Every individual has an idea which inspires him or her, with which the person lives and dreams, our theme “STAND. SPEAK. SHOW.” signifies to unveil it, to speak out and to show who you are. From the varying diversity, globally, to connect to everybody and to know each and to inspire everyone these three aspects are the necessity of the minute. If something is going wrong within the community, stand up for them, speak out and show the rest that it is wrong. The theme seeks to target the mind of audience that there is a positive aspect in every negative concept, which cannot be discovered until the concept is put forth in front of the crowd. In the era of insecurity, selfishness and corruption we should Stand up for ourselves, Speak up for us and Show it to all! The theme defines the strength of every individual to bring the change through their ideas which are worth spreading to make a better world.
What is TED?
TED is a non-profit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California, with simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each year in Oxford, UK. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide. TED has established TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to organize local, independent TED-like events around the world, and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
What is TEDx?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations).
The journey to TEDxSIULavale 2017 started off in 2012 with SITM organizing its first ever TEDxSITM. The theme for the event was “An Eye for I”. Because of the response received from the attendees for a wonderful idea sharing platform, SITM organised its second TEDxSITM in 2014 with the theme “Together towards Transition”. Being the cultural melting pot that Symbiosis Lavale campus is, a need was felt to mark the unity of the campus in being an open-minded and an active idea sharing community of students. Hence, TEDxSITM was escalated to a whole new level – TEDxSIULavale. This meant a lot since the whole campus with 6 colleges was now associated with the event. Continuing this wonderful journey the theme for 2015 was “Excelsior… Dreams to Reality” and for 2016 was “Ideations Unlimited… Dare to Share”. This year again, TEDxSIULavale is back with riveting theme “STAND. SPEAK. SHOW.” The theme represents the idea of standing for a thought or a cause, speaking about it from one’s heart and showing it to the world how these ideas can be translated into action. Moreover, SITM shares the same logic as that of TEDx… Ideas worth spreading, so it is the perfect platform for people to share their ideation.
