TEDx is a grassroots initiative, created in the spirit of TED’s overall mission to research and discover “ideas worth spreading.” TEDx brings the spirit of TED to local communities around the globe via “rules and tools”. TEDx events include live speakers, where x= independently organized TED event. (subject to certain rules and regulations)
TED was born in 1984 out of Richard Saul Wurman's observation of a powerful convergence among three fields: technology, entertainment and design. The first TED, which he co-founded with Harry Marks, included a demo of the compact disc, the e-book and cutting-edge 3D graphics from Lucasfilm, while mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot demonstrated how to map coastlines using his developing theory of fractal geometry. TED is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world. We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. On TED.com, we're building a clearinghouse of free knowledge from the world's most inspired thinkers — and a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other, both online and at TED and TEDx events around the world, all year long.
In the spirit of “Ideas Worth Spreading”, TED started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak upto 18 minutes. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
TEDxSIULavale is an independently organized TED event that brings people together to share a TED like experience. The main aim of organizing such an event is to get students to believe in their dreams and go beyond their status quo by not limiting their ideas to themselves but also to contribute to the lives of people. The journey to TEDxSIULavale 2018 started off in 2012 with SITM organizing its first ever TEDxSITM with the theme: An Eye for I. Because of the response received from the attendees for a wonderful idea sharing platform, SITM organized its second TEDxSITM in 2014 with the theme: Together towards Transition. Being the cultural melting pot that Symbiosis Lavale campus is, a need was felt to mark the unity of the campus in being an open-minded and active idea sharing community of students. For this reason, TEDxSITM was escalated to a whole new level – TEDxSIULavale. The whole campus with 6 colleges was now associated with the event. Continuing this wonderful journey, in 2015, TEDxSIULavale was held with the theme: Excelsior: From Dreams to Reality, and in 2016, with the theme: Ideations Unlimited… Dare to Share. TEDxSIULavale came back in 2017 with the theme: Stand. Speak. Show. Moving on, in 2018, TEDxSIULavale was held on the riveting theme #ideacracy. The theme represented the power of ideas. In Greek, the word ‘cracy’ means a kind of rule and Ideacracy means The Rule of Ideas. Last year, we came to you with the theme Crayons: The Creative Quotient. The theme showcased the diversity and reflected the varied colours of life which can be unobvious, off track, unheard of and yet those which can add a different dimension to a mundane thought process.
Being TEDx licensee for the 8th time, TEDxSIULavale 2020 shall be a platform to stand out and proliferate one’s needs to take that extra mile and break conventions. The core essence is to drive a shift in mindset adding a dash of disruption to stereotypical thinking. The theme is Dispel stereoptypes. In doing so TEDxSIULavale 2020, aims at empowering the young community to dismiss fixed notions, move out of their comfort zones and evolve.
