Our world has seen a millennia of changes, many species ruling and dying out, but it has probably never witnessed anything like us, humans. We, as a race, are special because of the way we use our minds. We don’t just react or act, we ponder over various situations and think about things, creating and designing new actions in the process. Ideas are what mark us different from all other species. The way we ideate has helped our civilizations grow and transform this world completely into our home. The theme for TEDxSIULavale 2016 is Ideations Unlimited… Dare to Share. An idea can transform the way we live, and every idea is unique and special in its own way. So much so that, we believe ideation must be a way of life. Honouring the same spirit, TEDxSIULavale 2016 will witness speakers from very different walks of life, signalling that there is no bar on ideation or no particular genre to ideate. Speakers will share their ideas and imbibe a sense of confidence to think, visualize, and ideate whatever we want to, and have the courage to share it with others because an idea kept hidden from others is as good as nothing at all.
What is TED?
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California, with simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each year in Oxford, UK. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide. TED has established TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to organize local, independent TED-like events around the world, and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities. What is TEDx?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations).
The journey to TEDxSIULavale 2016 started off in 2012 with SITM organizing its first ever TEDxSITM. The theme for the event was “An Eye for I”. Because of the response received from the attendees for a wonderful idea sharing platform, SITM organised its second TEDxSITM in 2014 with the theme “Together towards Transition”. Being the cultural melting pot that Symbiosis Lavale campus is, a need was felt to mark the unity of the campus in being an open-minded and an active idea sharing community of students. Hence, TEDxSITM was escalated to a whole new level – TEDxSIULavale. This meant a lot since the whole campus with 6 colleges was now associated with the event. This year again, TEDxSIULavale is back to ignite minds, and compel them to delve upon their thoughts and IDEATE. Moreover, SITM shares the same logic as that of TEDx… Ideas worth spreading, so it is the perfect platform for people to share their ideation.
